See for yourself whether you should have flood insurance
Even while many of our customers live outside a flood plain, the relatively low cost of flood insurance outweighs the potential devastating effects, as we have all come to see first-hand from many of our neighbors.
Remember that standard homeowners and business policies do not cover losses caused by flooding, and you should have flood coverage even if you are a renter and your property is in a low to moderate risk flood zone. Flood insurance covers damage to buildings, personal possessions, fixtures, machinery and equipment, as well as the cost of prevention measures and cleanup expenses.
Soucy Insurance will secure a policy through the Federal Flood Insurance Program, which provides limited coverage. If more insurance is needed, our agents will arrange for the coverage through a specialized insurance company that offers what is known as an excess flood insurance policy.
Since we are not out of the woods from flooding this Spring, we believe it is important that you know all the facts and see for yourself whether your property is in high, moderate or low risk flood area. FEMA and the National Oceanic Atmospheric Association (NOAA) have created a new interactive flood map to educate residents about their individualized flood risks. The site also provides tips on what to do before, during, and after a flood.
